Results of Cairo ICT Indicators Meeting

On March 3-5, 2009 the 7th World Telecommunication/ICT Indicators (WTI) Meeting took place in Cairo, Egypt, from. The Meeting was organized by the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and hosted by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of the Government of Egypt. The meeting was open to all the membership and was primarily addressed to those responsible for ICT statistics in relevant Ministries, regulatory agencies, telecommunication operating companies and national statistical offices.

Interconnection regime expected to enhance competition on electronic communications market

Today, March 13, 2009, the Regulations on Interconnection has entered in force, having been approved by ANRCETI Administrative Board and published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Moldova. The Regulations lays down the principles and procedure of interconnection between public electronic communications networks and services and of access to networks and associated facilities, including to the local loop.

Number of high-speed Internet subscribers increased 2,4 times in 2008

In 2008 the number of broadband Internet subscribers (speed higher than 128 Kbps) at fixed locations increased 2,4 times: from 47,2 thousand in 2007 to 115,12 thousand in 2008. it is the most considerable increase registered in the recent years on the Internet market, says a report by the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI) based on statistical data submitted by Internet service providers.

In 2008 broadcast market grew by 53%

In 2008 the total sales volume of the audio-visual broadcast and re-transmission service market grew by 53,85% over 2007, the total sum being 235,76 million lei, the investment increased by 30% coming up to 58,25 million lei, as shown in a report by the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI), based on statistical data submitted by the providers of these services.

On the International Telecommunications Union’s (ITU) invitation, a delegation of the Republic of Moldova participates at the 7th World Telecommunication/ICT Indicators (WTI) Meeting that takes place in Cairo, Egypt, from 3-5 March 2009. The Meeting is organized by the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) of ITU and hosted by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of the Government of Egypt.

Fixed gives in to mobile

In 2008, the number of fixed subscribers increased, compared to 2007, by 34,69 thousand or by 3,2%, coming up one million 114 thousand. This is the lowest rate of increase in the recent years. It appears to confirm that the fixed telephony market is close to the saturation stage, as shown in a report by the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI) regarding the developments of this market segment.

In 2008 mobile sales exceeded 2,9 billion lei

In 2008 the volume of mobile sales increased by 22,6% over 2007 and totaled two billion 914,7 million lei, whereas the investments in this sector increased by 5,7% reaching one billion 224,6 thousand lei, as shown in a report by the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI) based on statistical data submitted by the four mobile operators.

ANRCETI presented yellow card to JSC „Moldtelecom”

The National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI) conveyed a warning to JSC „MOLDTELECOM” for unauthorized use of numbering resources from the National Numbering Plan. The process of monitoring the activity of electronic communications networks and/or service providers, carried out by the Agency, revealed unauthorized (unlicensed) use, by JSC „MOLDTELECOM”, of certain numbering resources for the provision of fixed telephony services in a number of districts, as well as in Chisinau municipality.

Today, February 17, 2009, once published in the Official Gazette and being approved by Administrative Board Decision no. 55 of 29.12.2008, the Regulations on Identification and Analysis of Relevant Electronic Communications Market and Designation of Providers with Significant Market Power entered in force.

ANRCETI will apply new tool for competition promotion on electronic coomunications market

The National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI) is entitled to determine electronic communications networks and/or service providers with significant market power on a particular relevant market and to impose special obligations to prevent them from distorting the market or restricting competition.
