In the first half of 2018, the fixed broadband market continued to grow. Thus, the total number of subscribers to these services increased by 2,4% over the 6-month period, reaching over 598 thousand, and the volume of revenues from these services increased by 6,3% and reached more than 636,5 million lei. As a result of this evolution, the average monthly revenue per subscriber (ARPU) for these services increased by 1,4% and became 180 lei.

In the timeframe January - June 2018, the volume of revenues on the fixed telephony market decreased by 20,8%, compared to the first half of last year, and reached 285 million lei, while the average monthly revenue per subscriber (ARPU) decreased by 18,6% to 41,9 lei.

In the first half of 2018, mobile broadband traffic (3G, 4G and dedicated access (modems / cards / USB)) increased by 31,1% compared with the same period of 2017, making up a total of 40 million 781,4 thousand GB. The highest traffic growth rate - over 71% - was generated by smartphone users - 16 million 592,6 thousand GB, while traffic generated by users of dedicated mobile Internet increased by 13% to more than 24 million 188,8 thousand GB.

The National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI) invites stakeholders, who are interested to obtain the right to use radio spectrum resources available for public electronic communications networks, to notify the regulator about their interest to participate (or not participate) in an eventual auction to be held for the allocation of those resources.

Chiril Gaburici wished the new Director success in his professional activity, mentioning that he relies on his responsibility and professionalism. "I insist on a constructive collaboration between the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure and ANRCETI, because the IT sector is becoming more and more attractive to investors and is has grown 9% since last year, while its share in the GDP reaches 6,6% and is continually increasing.

The National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI) reminds that providers of publicly available electronic communications services are required to submit to ANRCETI, by July 20, 2018, information on the quality parameters measured in the second quarter of this year for fixed telephony services, Internet access, mobile telephony and television. This is a requirement prescribed by ANRCETI Administrative Board Decision no.278 of 17.11.2009 regarding the establishment of quality parameters for public electronic communications services, as amended by Decision no. 68 of 12.11.2015.

In the first half of 2018, the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI), as an authority entitled to find contraventions in the fields under its competence and apply sanctions to offenders, penalized seven providers and the manager of a company operating in this field, for non-compliance with the general authorization conditions for the provision of electronic communications networks and services. According to an ANRCETI report, the providers were fined, pursuant to the Contravention Code, ranging from 6,000 lei to 12,000 lei (120-240 conventional units – c.u.), while the manager was fined 1,500 lei (30 c.u.).

The National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI) reminds that before July 10, electronic communications networks and/or services providers are required to submit to ANRCETI reports on revenues from electronic communications activities in qtr. II of 2018, whereas postal networks and/ or services providers - statistical reports for qtr. II on the evolution of the postal market segments under their operation. 

In the first three months of this year, the total volume of revenues from activities in the electronic communications sector (mobile and fixed voice, mobile and fixed Internet, broadcasting and retransmission of audiovisual programs, other electronic communications activities) decreased compared to the first quarter of the previous year, by 4,8% and reached 1 bn. 493 million lei. These are data from the Report on the evolution of the electronic communications market in the first quarter of 2018, published on the official website of the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI).

The statistical data on the evolution of the pay TV market (cable networks and IP TV), aggregated by the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI), show that in the first quarter of 2018 the number of IP TV subscribers went up by 8,7 thousand (+6,2%) and reached 148,2 thousand, while the number of cable TV subscribers dropped by 3,8 thousand (-2,1%) and was estimated at 180,4 thousand.
