According to statistical data on Pay TV market developments (cable and IP TV) in the first quarter of 2016, published on the official website of the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI), both the number of subscribers and the revenues decreased during this period. The number of subscribers equaled 271,8 thousand - decreased by 3,4 thousand (1,3%), while the revenues equaled 37,5 mln. lei - reduced by 939,1 thousand lei (2,1%). Thus the total revenue of the audiovisual sector constituted about 66 mln. lei, down by 14,6 mln. lei (15,3%).
According to the data presented to ANRCETI by the 92 Pay TV service providers, the number of subscribers connected to this service via cable networks dropped by 5,6 thousand (-2,7%) down to 200,9 thousand, while the IP TV subscriber base increased 2,2 thousand (+3,2%) up to 70,9 thousand. As a result, the Pay TV penetration rate per 100 inhabitants dropped 7,6%.
The data also show that from the total number of subscribers, 73,9% used cable TV services, while 26,1% - IP TV services. 59,3% of the total used analog TV services and 40,7% - digital TV services. The market shares in this timeframe, by turnover, were as follows: Moldtelecom - 30,1%, Sun Communications - 27,3%, TV BOX - 7,7%. The cumulative market share of the other 89 providers was 34,9%.
