According to data of the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI - www.anrceti.md) about the developments of Internet market in 2010, the number of subscribers to broadband Internet at fixed locations increased over 2009, by 44.1%, the number being 269.1 thousand, whereas the number of 3G mobile Internet users reached 119,6 thousand.
However, the number of dial-up Internet subscribers decreased by over 95% being less than a thousand. Following these developments, the penetration rate of broadband Internet access at a fixed locations, per 100 inhabitants, increased over 2009, by 2.3 percentage points and reached 7.55 %. The broadband service market is undergoing rapid development due to the increasing availability of these services and reduction of tariffs.
During this timeframe the total sales volume on the market for Internet access at fixed locations increased by 21,7% over 2009 and exceeded 527,3 million lei. This increase occurred due to higher sales volumes of companies Starnet and Moldtelecom. Starnet sales grew by 95% and exceeded 79 million lei, sales of Moldtelecom – by 16,5% reaching over 348,2 million lei. The sales volume of company „Orange Moldova” of Internet access at fixed locations services was 22,7 million lei, less by 4,7% than in 2009. The turnover of the other operators in this market increased by 10.5% and reached 77,4 million lei.
According to the data available with ANRCETI, in 2010 the largest share of the market for Internet access at fixed location - 72% - was held by Moldtelecom JSC, whareas Starnet LLC had 26.2% share.
