ANRCETI DIRECTOR ATTENDING REGIONAL REGULATORY FORUM FOR EUROPE 2023

On September 28 – 29, the Director of the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI) Sergiu Gaibu, is taking part in the Regional Regulatory Forum for Europe 2023, organized by the ITU Office for Europe and the Agency for Electronic Communications and Postal Services of Montenegro (EKIP), held in Budva, Montenegro. The theme of this year's forum is "Universal Connectivity in Europe: Current Status and Future Prospects." The event brings together representatives of European electronic communications regulatory authorities, ministries, industry, academia, development banks, and more.

This event provides a unique opportunity for high-level dialogue with stakeholders regarding strategies and policies for broadband development, challenges and opportunities of high-speed networks, flexible and collaborative regulatory measures in areas such as technologies and market trends, the future of regulation in the digital age, delivering information, consumer rights and protection, future steps toward the EU's digital single market, etc.

Sergiu Gaibu is also participating in the first Joint Workshop of ITU-EMERG-EaPeReg, covering the topic ”Strengthening Broadband Infrastructure and Services." This workshop results from a joint declaration signed by these international organizations during the Global Symposium for Regulators 2023 (GSR2023) and aims to continue their commitment to increased cooperation in mapping broadband infrastructure and services.

Through this workshop, ITU, EMERG, and EaPeReg aim to facilitate the exchange of best practices, contribute to the identification of effective tools for mapping broadband infrastructure and services in the regions. During this working session, Moldova presented the concept of establishing a single focal point for mapping infrastructure, including electronic communications infrastructure.

Sergiu Gaibu also had a bilateral meeting with Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, the Director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau of ITU. During the meeting, they discussed the progress and the development projects in the Republic of Moldova and new opportunities for cooperation and knowledge exchange.

ITU is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) where governments and the private sector from UN member countries coordinate global telecommunications sector development. The Republic of Moldova became a member of ITU on October 20, 1992.

EMERG is a group of electronic communications regulatory authorities in the Mediterranean and European region, established in 2008, aiming to share experiences and ensure better consolidation and harmonization of regulatory principles in the Mediterranean region.

EaPeReg is an independent platform established on September 11, 2012, in Chisinau, with the mission of facilitating ongoing information and experience exchange among regulatory authorities in the field of electronic communications from Eastern Partnership (EaP) countries – Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan. It seeks to harmonize the legal framework in EaP states with EU standards and apply the best European regulatory practices. ANRCETI has been a member of EaPeReg since 2012.
