Statistical data on the evolution of the fixed broadband market, processed by the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI), show that in the timeframe January-March 2020, the total number of subscribers to these services increased compared to end of 2019, by 1.2% and was estimated at 678.4 thousand. The total volume of revenues in this sector increased, compared to the first quarter of 2019, by 2.4% and totaled 341.4 million lei.
The increase in the total number of subscribers was driven by the 3.5% increase in the number of users choosing coaxial cable connections – it reached over 56 thousand and those who preferred fiber connections (FTTx), which increased by 1.8% and totaled over 460 thousand. The same data show that the number of subscribers connected via xDSL technology dropped by 1.5% and reached 160.6 thousand, and subscribers connected via other technologies decreased by (0.6%) and equaled to 1.7%. thousand.
The fixed broadband penetration rate per 100 inhabitants increased by 0.3 pp. and showed 25.3%. The average monthly revenue per user (ARPU) decreased by 4.6% compared to the first quarter of the previous year and was estimated at 168.7 lei.
So, as a result of this development, at the end of the first qtr. of 2020, the providers had eld the following market shares by turnover: Moldtelecom - 62%, StarNet Soluții - 21%, Orange Moldova - 7%, while the cumulative market share of the other suppliers was 10%.
