Mobile operators from Moldova, the European Union (EU), and the European Economic Area (EEA), signatories of the Joint Declaration on reducing roaming charges, have agreed on maximum price caps for retail prices for data and roaming calls, reaffirming their commitments during the signing ceremony held today, September 22, with the participation of BEREC (Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications), ANRCETI (National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology), representatives of the Government, and the European Commission. Thus, one more important step has been taken towards ensuring lower roaming charges between the Republic of Moldova and EU/EEA countries. BEREC and ANRCETI coordinated the negotiation process, ensuring the successful completion of this stage.
According to the Joint Declaration signed on May 31, 2023, between operators from the Republic of Moldova and the EU/EEA, the new roaming charges will come into effect on January 1, 2024. At this moment, the Declaration has been signed by all operators from the Republic of Moldova and four operators from the EU, but it remains open for operators from the EU/EEA. The Declaration will apply until December 31, 2025, and may be renewed thereafter.
The Joint Declaration specifies that BEREC will act as an independent third party to implement the agreement between operators. Therefore, since June 2023, the co-chairs of BEREC Roaming Group have been analyzing the data received from operators and have established the glidepaths for retail roaming voice and data services between the signatory parties, with the process supported by ANRCETI.
Today, operators have committed to significantly reduce retail roaming prices, mutually agreeing on the following maximum tariff caps for services provided to end users:
