The total number of pay TV subscribers and the total volume of sales on this market increased in the first three months of 2020, according to the statistical data available with the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications regarding the evolution of this market.
The total number of subscribers increased over the given timeframe by 3.4% and showed 346.7 thousand. This increase is due to the higher number of subscribers of IPTV services, by 8.6%, reaching 196 thousand. The number of subscribers connected by coaxial cable reduced by 2.7% and was estimated at 150.7 thousand. The same data show that 74.6% of subscribers had access to digital signal and 25.4% - to analog. In the first three months of the year, the pay TV penetration rate per 100 households increased by 1.2 pp. and reached 37.5%.
According to the data reported to ANRCETI by 46 active pay TV service providers, the total volume of sales from these services grew, compared to the similar period of 2019, by 10.9%, reaching 46 million lei. The growth was driven by the 45.4% increase of revenues from IPTV services, which totaled 30.6 million lei, while the revenues from coaxial cable TV services decreased by 24.5% and equaled 15.4 million lei. The average monthly revenue per user (ARPU) increased in that period by 7.6% to 45 lei.
At the end of the reporting period, the largest pay TV service providers held the following market shares, by turnover: Moldtelecom - 33%, TV BOX - 31.1%, Orange Moldova - 6.2% . The cumulative market share of the other providers was 29.8%.
