In 2021, the market for fixed broadband services continued to grow. Statistical data, processed by ANRCETI, show that during this period the total number of subscribers to these services increased by 6% compared to 2020 and was estimated at 762.3 thousand, the total volume of revenues obtained on this market increased by 4.1%, to a total of over 1.44 billion lei.
The increase in the total number of subscribers occurred due to the growing number of subscribers to fiber optic Internet connections (FTTx - Fiber to the premises) - by 17.5%, estimated at a total of about 610.6 thousand. However, the number of subscribers to xDSL (Digital Subscriber Line) and coaxial cable connections dropped by 24.5% and 23.2%, to 104.3 thousand and 45.4 thousand subscribers, accordingly. At the same time, the number of subscribers connected by other technologies increased by 0.8% and reached over 2 thousand. As a result of this evolution, the penetration rate of fixed broadband Internet services, per 100 inhabitants, increased by 2.1 pp. and reached 29.4%.
The majority of the subscribers to fixed broadband services - 375.7 thousand (49.3%) – use high data transfer speeds between 30 and 100 Mbps, and about 252.8 thousand (33.2%). %) - speeds over 100 Mbps. At the same time, 119.5 thousand (15.7%) of subscribers use browsing speeds and between 10 and 30 Mbps, 6 thousand (0.8%) - speeds from 2 to 10 Mbps and 8.3 thousand (1%) - speeds up to 2 Mbps.
The average monthly revenue per subscriber (ARPU) for fixed broadband services decreased by 2.8% and equaled 161.9 lei.
Following the evolution of the fixed broadband market, at the end of 2021, the providers had the following market shares, by turnover: Moldtelecom - 61.7%, StarNet Solutions - 21%, Orange Moldova - 6.2%, and the cumulative market share of the other suppliers was 11.1%.
