4G MOBILE BROADBAND CONNECTIONS INCREASINGLY IN DEMAND IN SECOND QUARTER OF 2022

According to the statistical data on the evolution of the mobile broadband market in the second quarter of 2022, processed by the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI), the total number of 4G broadband users increased, compared to the end of 2021, by about 5.7% and was estimated at over 2.1 million, constituting a share of 76% of the total connections to mobile broadband services.

The total number of broadband mobile users increased during three months by 3.5% and reached approximately 2.8 million, however, the number of data-only mobile broadband users decreased by 8.8% to about 134 thousand. Following this development, the penetration rate of broadband mobile services, per 100 population, increased by 4.5 p.p. and reached 106.8%.

According to the data presented to ANRCETI by the providers of mobile communication networks and services (Orange Moldova, Moldcell and Moldtelecom - Unite), in the timeframe under report, the total volume of mobile broadband traffic increased 28%, compared to the similar period of last year, to a total of 61.5 million GB, the traffic generated by mobile broadband users via smartphones increased by 48.7% up to 47.5 million GB, and the traffic generated by users of data-only access decreased by 13.2% and totaled 13.9 million GB. A user who accessed mobile broadband from a smartphone generated an average monthly traffic (AUPU) of 6 GB (+28.3%), and a user who used data-only access – an AUPU of 34.7 GB (+16.4%).

The same data show that the total volume of revenues obtained by providers from mobile broadband services increased, compared to the same period last year, by 4.1% and reached a total of approximately 327.3 million lei. The average monthly revenue per user (ARPU) of mobile broadband via smartphone decreased by 6.5%, to 36.2 lei, and the data-only mobile broadband ARPU increased by 8.4%, to 101.4 lei.

The market shares of mobile broadband service providers by revenues did not undergo major changes: Orange Moldova – 59%, Moldcell – 36% and Moldtelecom – 5%.
