USE OF MOBILE BROADBAND INCREASED IN THIRD QUARTER 2022
In the timeframe July-September 2022, the mobile broadband traffic (3G, 4G and data-only access technologies) increased, compared to the same quarter of 2021, by 27.3%, making a total of over 67.7 million GB. This development is explained by over 41.4% increase in traffic generated via smartphones, which totaled a volume of 54.2 million GB. On the other hand, the traffic generated by mobile broadband users by means of data-only access decreased by 9.2% and totaled 13.5 million GB. A user who accessed mobile broadband from a smartphone generated an average monthly traffic (AUPU) of 6.6 GB (+29.1%), and a user data-only access – an AUPU of 34, 2 GB (+18.6%).
According to the statistical data presented to ANRCETI by the three providers of mobile communications networks and services (Orange Moldova, Moldcell and Moldtelecom), the total number of users who accessed mobile broadband increased, compared to the end of 2021, by 8,7% and was estimated at over 2.9 million, whereas the number of data-only broadband users decreased by 11.6% and totaled 129.8 thousand; and the number of M2M users increased by 8.5% up to 56.5 thousand. At the same time, the number of 4G users increased by 14.8% and reached 2.3 million. Following this development, the penetration rate of mobile broadband, per 100 inhabitants, increased by 9.9 percentage points, reaching 112.3%.
As a result of the increase in the number of users and the traffic they generated, the total volume of revenues from mobile broadband services increased, compared to the same period last year, by 2.6% and was estimated at approximately 347.7 million lei. Consequently, the average monthly revenue per user (ARPU) for mobile broadband decreased by 3.2% and showed 37.8 lei.
At the end of the reporting period, the market shares of the three providers of mobile broadband services, by revenues, were as follows: Orange Moldova - 58.5%, Moldcell – 37 % and Moldtelecom – 4.5%.
