According to the statistical data presented by the three mobile providers in the second quarter of this year, mobile broadband consumption increased, amid decreasing of the total number of users and the total volume of revenues generated by these services. Thus, the traffic generated by mobile broadband users (services 3G, 4G and dedicated access (via modems / routers)) increased by 46.2% and reached 35.5 million GB. Of the total traffic volume - 18.7 million GB (+ 53.8%) was generated by means of smartphones, and GB 16.8 million (+ 38.5%) via dedicated access.
During the reference period, a user who accessed mobile broadband via smartphone generated an average monthly traffic (AUPU) of approximately 3.1 GB (+ 52.1%), and a user who accessed dedicated mobile broadband - an AUPU of 25.7 GB (+ 51.6%). The total number of users who accessed mobile broadband during the reference period decreased, compared to the end of the previous year, by about 11.5% and equaled to 2.1 million. Of the total number of users - 213.4 thousand were users dedicated mobile broadband (via modems / routers).
As a result of this development, the mobile broadband penetration rate was 79.8% (9 pp lower than at the end of the previous year), and the penetration rate of dedicated mobile decreased by 0.8 pp and made up 8.1%.
The same data show that the total volume of revenues from the sale of mobile broadband services decreased, compared to the same period last year, by 4.7% and reached about 286.6 million lei. The average monthly revenue per subscriber (ARPU) reported by providers of dedicated mobile broadband services was 88.5 lei (+ 7.4%), and the ARPU registered from the mobile broadband services via smartphones was 38,4 lei (- 6.5%).
The market shares of the providers, by turnover, were as follows: Orange Moldova - 62.5%, Moldcell - 29% and Moldtelecom - 8.5%.
