Statistical data on the evolution of the mobile broadband market, analyzed by the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI) show that in 2020, users of Internet via smartphones generated traffic over 81.5 million GB, up by 55.3% compared to 2019. At the same time, dedicated mobile broadband traffic increased by 31.5% to 68.7 million GB, and the total mobile broadband access traffic increased by 43.4% and reached about 150.2 million GB. A user who accessed mobile broadband from his smartphone generated an average monthly traffic (AUPU) of 3.3 GB, up by 54.4%, and a dedicated mobile broadband user - of 26.8 GB, up by 46,1%.
According to the data submitted by mobile communications providers (Orange Moldova, Moldcell, Moldtelecom - Unite) the number of 4G mobile Internet users increased by 6.8% compared to 2019, and was estimated at about 1.7 million, the number of dedicated mobile broadband users decreased by 18% and made 194.4 thousand, and the total number of mobile broadband users decreased by 0.4% and was estimated at about 2.4 million. The penetration rate of these services was 89.8% (up by 1 pp over 2019).
The total volume of revenues of mobile broadband access services increased, compared to 2019, by 1.9% and made over 1.2 billion lei, while revenues from dedicated broadband access decreased by 1.9% and totaled 235.4 million lei. Thus, the average monthly revenue (ARPU) per mobile broadband user of smartphones increased by 1.7% and amounted to 39.4 lei, and the ARPU per mobile broadband user by dedicated access increased by 8,8% and reached 91.7 lei.
The market shares of the three mobile broadband providers, by revenue, were as follows: Orange Moldova - 61.8%, Moldcell - 29.9% and Moldtelecom - 8.3%.
