On Monday, October 29, Octavian Rau, Director of the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI) had a meeting with the representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to identify possibilities for cooperation with the EBRD in the field of electronic communications. Vitalie Tarlev, State Secretary at the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure of the Republic of Moldova also took part in the meeting.
During the meeting the parties discussed issues regarding the development of broadband services in the Republic of Moldova, planned activities to be fulfilled by ANRCETI for the development of broadband infrastructure and possible cooperation measures for the realization of the digital inventory of broadband services.
Octavian Rau mentioned that ANRCETI is currently working on a new concept of the digital service inventory, which will include information on operating market providers, deployed networks and services rendered to the population and will also provide a platform for access to that information for both providers and users of these services.
We note that EBRD representatives expressed interest in joint activities to accelerate the development of broadband services in the Republic of Moldova and are willing to provide assistance in this respect.
Noteworthy that in the timeframe 2009-2011 the EBRD financed the technical assistance project "Communications Regulation Development", delivered to ANRCETI. Through this project, ANRCETI received the necessary assistance to implement a modern, transparent, predictable and favorable regulatory framework for investors in line with EU requirements and to strengthen its institutional capacities.
