According to the statistical data, aggregated by the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI), the main indicators of the pay TV market (coaxial cable networks and IP TV), increased in the first quarter of 2021. The volume of pay TV revenues increased, compared to the similar period of 2020, by 3.1% and reached about 47 million lei, and the total number of subscribers increased, compared to the end of 2020, by 0,6% and made up about 363 thousand.
The increase of revenues was driven by the increase of IP TV sales, which went up by 13.6% and was estimated at 34.8 million lei. At the same time, the sales made by the coaxial cable network providers decreased by 18.4% and totaled 12.2 million lei. As a result of this evolution, the average monthly revenue per pay TV subscriber (ARPU) decreased by 2.8% and equaled 43.3 lei.
The increase in the total number of subscribers was caused by the increase of the subscriber base of IP TV network operators, which expanded by 2.1% and totaled 215 thousand. At the same time, the number of subscribers to coaxial cable networks decreased by 1.6% and reached about 148 thousand. As a result, the penetration rate of pay TV services, per 100 households, increased by 0.2 percentage points up to 41.2% compared to the end of 2020.
The statistical data presented to ANRCETI by the pay TV service providers, during the reporting period, show that out of the total number of subscribers - 59.2% used IP TV networks, and the rest - coaxial cable TV networks. The same data show that in the first three months of this year, the share of digital TV subscribers reached 80.7%.
According to ANRCETI estimates, at the end of the first quarter, the largest providers of pay TV services, by turnover, shared the market as follows: Moldtelecom - 35.1%, TV BOX - 34.8% , Orange Moldova - 5.6%. The cumulative market share of the other suppliers was 24.5%.
