On November 21 - 22, 2016, a team of specialists from the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology, headed by Director Grigore Varanita, are taking part in two events organized by Eastern Partnership Electronic Communications Regulators Network (EaPeReg): a Workshop on International Roaming and EaPeReg Plenary Meeting. The events are taking place in Bucharest, with the support of the European Commission (EC) and the National Authority for Management and Regulation of Communications (ANCOM) from Romania.
These events are attended by representatives of EaPeReg, the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC), with which EaPeReg previously concluded a cooperation agreement, and experts from EU Member States.
The Agenda of the workshop includes issues regarding the EU regulatory framework for international roaming, the experience of Latvia and Romania in terms of the implementation of the EU Regulation on roaming and the experience of the Eastern Partnership countries in this area.
According to the Agenda of the EaPeReg Plenary, the delegates will look into the current state of the EU regulatory framework for electronic communications; will discuss the draft Work Plan for 2017, the Action Plan and the roadmap for 2018 – 2019. The Plenary will elect the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of EaPeReg for next year. As well, the participants will present the results of the three expert groups previously created within EaPeReg: Benchmarking Expert Working Group (BEWG), the Spectrum Expert Working Group (SEWG) and Roaming Expert Working Group (REWG).
The EaPeReg Network was established in 2012 in Chisinau, at a meeting of electronic communications regulators from EaP countries. EaPeReg's mission is to ensure a permanent exchange of information and experience between the EaP regulators and EU regulators in terms of harmonization of the legal frameworks in EaP countries with EU standards and use of best practices of European regulators. Since 2013, the EC is delivering a technical assistance project to EaPeReg Network.
