National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology of the Republic of Moldova

In the timeframe January - June 2018, the volume of revenues on the fixed telephony market decreased by 20,8%, compared to the first half of last year, and reached 285 million lei, while the average monthly revenue per subscriber (ARPU) decreased by 18,6% to 41,9 lei.

Statistical data on the evolution of this market, published by the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI), show that in six months the number of subscribers dropped more than 17,5 thousand (-1,5%) and equaled more than 1 million 126,4 thousand, while the total volume of voice traffic decreased, compared to the first half of 2017, by 129,8 million minutes (-15,5%) to a total of 705,9 million minutes.

According to the data presented to ANRCETI by 23 active fixed telephony service providers, the decrease of the total number of subscribers was caused by the decrease of subscribers' base of JSC "Moldtelecom", by 12,9 thousand (-1,3%), their number reaching at the end of the first semester at 1 million 5,3 thousand. At the same time, the aggregated subscriber base of the other 22 alternative fixed-line providers dropped by more than 4,6 thousand (-3,7%) to more than 121,1 thousand. Following this development, the penetration rate of fixed telephony services per 100 inhabitants of the country decreased by 0,5 percentage points and reached 31,7%.

The total volume of voice traffic in fixed networks went down due to the decrease of all types of traffic. Thus, compared to the same period of the previous year, the traffic to international networks decreased by 31,6%, traffic in individual networks decreased by 16,4% and the traffic to mobile networks decreased by 15,6%. As a result, average monthly voice traffic per subscriber (MoU) decreased by 12,5% to 164 minutes (two hours and 44 minutes).
