In 10 days since mobile number portability was launched, 550 mobile number porting took place, the first ported number in Moldova being activated on July 4th, 2013. These are the data provided by the Administrator of the centralized data base (CDB) for number portability in his report, submitted today to the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information technology (ANRCETI).
To date, July 11, the database recorded around 2000 applications for mobile porting. The number of porting applications has been growing rapidly from one day to another, since July 1, when the number portability service was launched in the Republic of Moldova. Currently, over 550 ported numbers have already been activated and are operating in the networks of the providers chosen by the users.
Telephone users can benefit from information available on the web page of the CDB Administrator www.portare.md. The web page daily records an average of 126 visitors, the record being recorded on July 1st - over 340 people accessed the page to learn about number portability.
ANRCETI believes that the success of number portability should be assessed not as much in terms of number of portings, as in the efforts providers make to keep their customers by better offers, better quality of services and lower tariffs. Earlier, ANRCETI officials said that the regulator wishes to have a market where number portability will contribute to enhanced competition between providers and the number of portings will not reflect dissatisfaction with a particular provider, but appeal to a better offer at a more advantageous price.
Number portability is a service that allows telephone users to retain their telephone number when switching the service provider. Starting from July 1, 2013, any mobile user can benefit from the number portability service within 5 working days after applying for it with the provider of his choice. The launch of fixed number portability is scheduled for July 31, 2013.
The CDB Administrator’s functions are fulfilled by ICS "NP Base" LLC, a company founded in August 2012 by the company "MEDIAFON" UAB from Lithuania, which was designated by ANRCETI as winner of the tender for selection of a CDB Administrator. His mission is to organize, operate, manage and maintain the database, coordinate and control the porting process, offer support to providers relevant for the porting process.
