National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology of the Republic of Moldova

The statistical data on the evolution of the pay TV market (cable networks and IPTV networks) in nine months of 2018, aggregated by the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI), show that the IP TV market continued to grow, against the backdrop of cable TV market reduction.

According to the data presented by the 75 active providers on this market, in January - September 2018, compared to similar timeframe of 2017, the number of IPTV subscribers grew by about 10% and reached 153,4 thousand, the revenues from these services increased by 2% and were estimated at 56,5 million lei, whereas the number of cable TV subscribers dropped by 10,6% and was estimated at 164,7 thousand, the volume of revenues from these services decreased by 2,8% and showed 62,6 million lei.

Following the trend of the two market segments, the cumulative number of pay TV subscribers decreased by 1,6% and were estimated at 318,6 thousand. The total volume of revenues on the pay TV market decreased by 0,6% and reached 119,1 million lei, while the average monthly revenue per subscriber (APRU) decreased by 8,2% and became 41 lei.

The same data show that 68,5% out of the total number of digital TV subscribers used IP TV services and 31,5% – cable TV services. The share of digital TV subscribers was 61,8%, and of analogue TV subscribers – 38,2%.

During the reporting timeframe, the biggest operators on the pay TV market had the following market shares, according to the turnover: SA "Moldtelecom" – 34,4%, LLC "Sun Communications" – 20,5% and LLC TV BOX – 12,7%. The cumulative market share of the other suppliers was 32,4%.
