Statistical data on the evolution of the pay TV market (cable and IP - IPTV) in the nine months of this year, aggregated by the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI), shows a slight increase of the main indicators. The total number of pay TV subscribers increased by 18% to 319 thousand and the cumulative revenues increased by 5,7%, up to 118,6 million lei.
The number of pay TV subscribers increased due to the bigger number of IPTV subscribers – 138,3 thousand, their share in the structure of pay TV subscribers reached 43,3%. At the same time, the number of cable TV subscribers dropped to 181,1 thousand, their share showing 56,7%.
As a result of this increase, the pay TV penetration rate per 100 inhabitants grew to 9%. At the end of the reporting period, 55,7% of the total number of subscribers received digital TV signal and 44,3% – analog TV signal.
The increase in total revenues was driven by increased revenues of the IPTV providers. The turnover of these suppliers increased by 7,7 million lei and reached 54,2 million lei. At the same time, the revenues of cable TV providers dropped by 1,4 million lei and equaled 64,3 million lei. As a result, the average monthly revenue per subscriber (ARPU) for pay TV services grew by 4,6% and amounted to 48,1 lei.
According to the situation on September 30, 2017, the pay TV service market was operated by 80 providers. The largest market shares, according to revenues, were owned by Moldtelecom (33,5%), Sun Communications (23,5%) and TV BOX (12,6%). The cumulative market share of the other 77 providers was 30,4%.
