The Statistical Report on the evolution of the postal service market in 2017, published by the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI) on its official website, shows that the value of the postal service market in the Republic of Moldova increased, compared to 2016, by 16 million 227,9 thousand lei (+5,3%) and reached 320 million 94,8 thousand lei.

This increase occurred due to the increase in the number of Express postal items, +19,8% and parcels, +13,1%, their tariffs being higher than those of the simple postal items. Thus, the volume of revenues from Express items grew by 6,3% up to 98 million 771,4 thousand lei, and the revenues from sending parcels increased by 6,6% and came up to 45 million 442, 6 thousand lei.

226 million 995,3 thousand lei (71%) out of the total volume of the postal revenues were generated by international postal items and 93 million 99,5 thousand lei (29%) – by domestic postal items.

According to the same data, the total number of postal items processed in 2017 (simple postal items, parcels, Express items) increased by 57,1 thousand (+0,1%) and were estimated at 61 million 656,6 thousand postal items. Thus, the traffic of simple postal items was 60 million 863,1 thousand, representing a share of 98,7%. The number of parcels reached 436,353 thousand, with 0,7% share and Express items were estimated at 357,151 thousand, representing a share of 0,6%. 56 million 435,2 thousand (91,5%) of the total number of postal items were domestic postal items and 5 million 221,4 thousand (8,5%) – international postal items.

At the same time, the total volume of revenues from the selling services under the scope of universal postal service was estimated at 147 million 53,4 thousand lei, representing about 46% of the total value of the postal services market.

The traffic of postal items under the scope of universal postal service grew by 2 million 776,3 thousand (+11.6%), as compared to 2016, accounting for 43,3% of total postal traffic. 99,8% of the total number of postal items under the universal postal service, were processed by the universal postal service provider "Poşta Moldovei", and 0,2% of the items – by LLC "New Post International MLD".
