In the second quarter of 2022, the volume of revenues from the activities on the electronic communications sector (mobile and fixed voice, mobile and fixed broadband, retransmission of audiovisual programs and other activities in the field of electronic communications) increased by 0.3%, compared to of the similar period of the previous year and was estimated at 1 billion. 493.8 million lei, according to the Report on the evolution of this market in the second quarter of 2022, published on the official website of the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI) www.anrceti.md.

Considering the commitment of the Republic of Moldova through the implementation of the Regional Agreement regarding the planning of the terrestrial digital broadcasting service, signed during the Geneva 2006 Regional Radiocommunication Conference and ratified by the Republic of Moldova through Law no. 69/2008, on 05.10.2022, the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI), as a result of the auction, designated the winners for the provision of public networks with regional coverage and publicly available electronic communications services in the digital terrestrial television system in the Republic Moldova, as follows:

In the second quarter of this year, the number of fixed broadband Internet connections, which allow speeds of over 100 Mbps, increased by 15.2% compared to the end of 2021, and reached more than 291.2 thousand, while the number of connections with data transfer speeds lower than 100 Mbps decreasing, according to the statistical data aggregated by the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI).

In the timeframe April - June 2022, the number of subscribers, voice traffic and revenues on the fixed voice market continued decreasing, a trend that had existed on this market for several years. The statistical data on the evolution of the fixed voice market in this period, processed by the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI), show that the number of subscribers decreased by 2.1% and was estimated at 979.6 thousand, the volume of voice traffic decreased by 23.8% and reached 188.1 million minutes, and the volume of revenues on this market segment decreased by 19.2% and made just over 69.4 million lei.

According to the statistical data on the evolution of the mobile broadband market in the second quarter of 2022, processed by the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI), the total number of 4G broadband users increased, compared to the end of 2021, by about 5.7% and was estimated at over 2.1 million, constituting a share of 76% of the total connections to mobile broadband services.

In the second quarter of 2022, the mobile voice market increased by 8.7% in terms of total number of users, their number exceeding 5.1 million, compared to the end of the previous year. The total volume of traffic decreased by 11.3%, compared to the similar period of last year, to a total of about 1 billion 512 million minutes, whereas the total volume of revenues decreased by 0.9%, compared to the second quarter of 2021, to over 713 million lei.

High tariffs for roaming and telephone calls between the Republic of Moldova and Romania had been a discouraging factor in the communication between users of electronic communications services in the two countries, as well as had limited the possibilities for users to travel in both countries.

In the first three months of this year, the fixed voice market continued to decline in terms of number of subscribers, voice traffic and revenues, a trend that has maintained in this market for several consecutive years. Thus, the number of subscribers decreased, compared to the end of 2021, by 0.8% and making over 991.9 thousand, the voice traffic decreased, compared to the first quarter of last year, by 20.5% and showed 225.4 million minutes, and the volume of revenues decreased by 12.8% to about 78 million lei.

The statistical data on the evolution of the mobile broadband market, aggregated by the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI), show that the market has grown dynamically in the first quarter of this year. Thus, the number of users who accessing the Internet through smartphones increased by 3.5%, compared to the end of 2021, and totaled over 2.6 million, and the traffic they generated increased by 58.3%, compared to the same period last year, and reached 42.2 million GB.
