In the second qtr. of 2021, the number of users of pay TV (IP) services provided by means of IP networks increased over the end of 2020, by more than 9.2 thousand (+ 4.4%) to the total of 219.9 thousand , whereas the number of users connected by coaxial cable went down by 5.3 thousand (-3.5%) to the total of 144.9 thousand, as shown by the statistical data on the evolution of the pay TV market, aggregated by the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology. At the same time, the total number of pay TV subscribers increased by 3.9 thousand (+ 1.1%) to about 365 thousand.
The same data show that 82.4% are digital TV subscribers and 17.6% - analog TV subscribers. 60% is the share of subscribers connected to TV services through IP networks and 40% - the share of subscribers connected via coaxial cable. The penetration rate of pay TV services per 100 households increased for three months by 1.1 p.p, reaching 42.1%.
The total volume of revenues on this market increased by 27% compared to the similar period of 2020, which was estimated at over 58 million lei. The revenues obtained by the operators from IPTV services equaled 36.3 million lei, having a share of 62.6% of the total. As a result of this evolution, the average monthly revenue per user (ARPU) for pay TV services increased by 21.1% and was estimated at 53.2 lei.
At the end of the second qtr. of this year, the largest operators on the pay TV market held the following market shares by turnover: Moldtelecom - 29.8%, TV BOX - 29.5%, Orange Moldova - 21.2%, and the cumulative share of other providers was 19.5%.
