National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology of the Republic of Moldova

According to statistical data submitted to the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI), by mobile communications providers, in 2020 users of mobile voice services generated a total voice traffic by 6.6%, higher compared to 2019 – a total of over 6.6 billion minutes. The revenues of providers on this market decreased by 6.3% and to a total of over 2.9 billion lei, and the total number of users of these services decreased by 7.4%, compared to the end of 2019 , making up over 4.1 million.

The analysis of voice traffic generated by users during the reporting period shows that calls made on their own networks increased by 4.5%, making up over 4.8 billion minutes, calls to other mobile networks increased by 18%. , totaling about 1.4 billion minutes, and calls directed to fixed networks increased by 10.2%, to a total of 277.2 million minutes.

The average monthly traffic (MoU) generated by a user, in 2020, increased by 11.2% and reached 310 minutes, and the average duration of a call was 2 minutes. A user of Orange Moldova consumed on average 348 minutes, a customer of Moldetelecom - 341 minutes, and the one of Moldcell - 233 minutes.

A decrease in the total number of users was registered by the mobile communication providers Orange Moldova and Moldcell. Thus, the number of Orange Moldova users decreased by 9.8% and reached over 2.3 million, and that of Moldcell decreased by 8.9% and totaled about 1.4 million. At the same time, the number of users Moldtelecom increased by 12.9% up to 459.8 thousand. Out of the total number of mobile telephony users - 3.4 million were active users, making up a share of 83.3%, and 687.8 thousand were passive users, representing 16.7% of the total number of users. The penetration rate of mobile telephony services, per 100 inhabitants, decreased by 5.3 percentage points and showed 129.5%.

The average monthly revenue per active mobile phone user (ARPU) decreased, compared to 2019, by 2.5% and reached 71.4 lei. ARPU reported by Orange Moldova was 74.6 lei, Moldtelecom - 73 lei, and Moldcell - of 65.5 lei.

The market shares, by turnover, of the three mobile telephony providers did not undergo essential changes. Thus, 63.2% of the market belongs to Orange Moldova, 30.4% - Moldcell and 6.4% - Moldtelecom.
