At the invitation of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the Director of the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI), Grigore Varanita is taking part in the Regional Broadband Investment Conference, hosted by EBRD in Athens, Greece, on October 20-21, 2016.

The conference brings together representatives of ministries, regulators and investors from selected EBRD countries of operation. The objective pursued by the organizers is to present the requirements and experience of participants in attracting sustainable investment in broadband infrastructure.

The conference is part of the EBRD initiative "Accelerating broadband connectivity", launched to help accelerate the rollout of affordable, high-speed broadband infrastructure across countries of operation.

According to the agenda, the conference participants will present their experience in setting policies and implementing national development broadband plans. EBRD representatives will present the bank's experience and capabilities of investment and technical assistance in broadband, ICT technologies and knowledge-economy.

In 2009-2011, EBRD has financed technical assistance project "Electronic Communications Regulatory Development" granted to ANRCETI. This project contributed with significant support in the implementation of the Law on Electronic Communications, harmonization of national regulatory practices to EU standards and strengthening the regulator’s institutional capacities.
