The statistical data on the evolution of the pay TV market (cable networks and IP TV), aggregated by the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI), show that in the first quarter of 2018 the number of IP TV subscribers went up by 8,7 thousand (+6,2%) and reached 148,2 thousand, while the number of cable TV subscribers dropped by 3,8 thousand (-2,1%) and was estimated at 180,4 thousand.

According to the data presented to ANRCETI by pay TV service providers, the revenues from these services decreased by 3,4 million lei (-8%) compared to the first quarter of 2017 and were estimated at 38,6 million lei. At the same time, the revenues from TV services provided through IP TV networks decreased by 650,5 thousand (-3,4%) and reached 18 million 305,7 thousand lei. As a result of this evolution, the average monthly revenue per subscriber (ARPU) decreased by 21,3% and equaled 39,5 lei.

The same data show that 54,9% of the total number of subscribers used cable TV networks and 45,1% – IP TV networks. 58,9% of the total number of subscribers had digital TV service, while 41,1% – analog TV.

In the first quarter of 2018, the largest operators on the pay TV market, according to turnover, had market shares as follows: Moldtelecom – 34,6%, Sun Communications – 22%, TV BOX – 12,4%, the cumulative share of other providers – 31%.
